WHO: WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said – The number of patients admitted due to Corona has increased in Europe, while the number of deaths has increased in Asia and the Middle East.
According to WHO, only 43 countries are sharing data on deaths due to Covid. There are only 20 countries which are giving information related to admitted patients. The organization said that at present there is not a single variant in the world that is spreading the fastest. However, EG.5 Omicron is on the rise, and cases of the BA.2.86 sub-variant have been found in 11 countries.
Ghebreyesus said – The number of admitted patients and deaths is proof that coronavirus is now going to be among us and we have to be prepared to fight it. WHO said that there is severe cold in the Northern Hemisphere. In such a situation, Corona cases may increase. For this reason, the number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals is increasing.
About a month ago, WHO declared Omicron’s sub-variant EG.5 or Eris as a ‘variant of interest’ in view of the increasing cases. Of the corona cases found in mid-July, 17% were of this variant. This was 7.6% more than in June. The case of the Aris variant came to light in Britain on 31 July. Most cases of this variant are being found in America, China, and Britain.
