China: China has blocked a proposal to designate Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Sajid Mir, wanted in the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, as a global terrorist. The US had presented this proposal at the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee meeting of the United Nations Security Council. India was its co-proposer.
This is not the first time that China has blocked the designation of a Pakistani terrorist as a global terrorist. In September last year too, China had blocked the proposal to declare Sajid as a global terrorist. This time he has blocked the offer.
Last year, China opposed the proposal brought by the US and India to include Abul Rauf Asghar alias Abdul Rauf Azhar, brother of Pakistani terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar, in the list of terrorists. In October last year, China also blocked a proposal to designate Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed’s son Talha Saeed as a global terrorist.
America has declared a reward of 5 million dollars on Sajid. According to the US investigative agency FBI, terrorist Sajid Mir was active for Lashkar-e-Taiba since 2001. He conspired and executed many terrorist attacks in collaboration with Lashkar.
On 21 April 2011, Mir was indicted by the United States District Court. He was charged with conspiracy to destroy foreign government property, aiding terrorists, killing a citizen outside the United States, and bombing public places. The US issued an arrest warrant against Mir on 22 April 2011.
