The US is not in favor of a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war. Foreign Minister Antony Blinken said that America and its allies should not talk about ceasefires or peace talks right now. Ukraine is not yet in a position to negotiate its own terms and until it does, it will not be safe from a ceasefire.
Antoni Blinken, who is on a visit to Finland, said – We believe that to bring real peace, a Ukraine is needed which will be able to respond to any future aggression.
If a ceasefire happens now, it would allow Russian President Putin to take control of the areas of Ukraine that he currently holds. Also, they will get time to prepare for the attack again.
Blinken said that Russia has occupied about 20 percent of Ukraine. In the event of a ceasefire, this area would go under their jurisdiction. This would not be the right message to the world and especially to Russia.
Along with this, countries preparing for future attacks will get a further boost. The US Secretary of State said that we will have to wait until Ukraine pushes Russia out of its borders.
Blinken also said that Russia wanted to break us but it has failed. NATO, EU, and Ukraine all three have become stronger after the Ukraine war. Whereas Russia has become more sideline. Now only China is supporting it.
