The death toll in the derailment of the Coromandel Express in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday evening has crossed 290.
The situation worsened when the Coromandel Express and the Bengaluru-Howrah Express derailed and collided head-on with a goods train. More than 900 passengers were injured in the accident.
After the accident, the rescue team kept trying to take out the people and dead bodies trapped in the middle of the train with the help of gas torches and electric cutters throughout the night. However, soon after the accident, the people of the surrounding villages proved to be real angels.
The villagers who reached the spot took out the people trapped in the train and took them to the hospital with a tractor trolley etc. During this, he gave water to the minor injuries and took them to a safe place.
Meanwhile, officials in Bhubaneswar said 200 ambulances, 50 buses, and 45 health units were working at the accident site, besides 1,200 personnel. The dead bodies are being taken to the hospital by different types of vehicles including tractors. Odisha Chief Secretary PK Jena tweeted that the death toll in the Balasore train accident has risen to 290.
