It has been told in the report that in the year 2022, 288 people lost their lives in accidents in Pakistan, out of which 166 people were from Balochistan. During the first five months of this year, there were 18 accidents in the coal mines of Balochistan, in which 24 laborers died.
At the beginning of 2023, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan in its ‘Fact Finding Report’ had expressed concern over the accidents in the mines of Balochistan in the year 2022. According to the All Pakistan Labor Federation report, there are more than 3800 coal mines currently active in Balochistan, with more than 100,000 workers extracting more than ten million tonnes of coal every year. More than 50 percent of the total coal mined in Pakistan on an annual basis is mined from Balochistan alone.
