Rahul Gandhi Criticized for Statements Made Abroad
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has condemned the derogatory statements made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the Indian Parliament while speaking at a program in the UK. Speaking at the release of Karan Singh’s book ‘Mundak Upanishad,’ Dhankhar expressed his disappointment at the behavior of some parliamentarians who engage in mindless insults of India’s democratic values.
While not naming Gandhi directly, Dhankhar said that it is unforgivable for a Member of Parliament to speak derogatory about the Indian Parliament from a foreign land and claim that the mikes are switched off during debates. He called the statement factually incorrect and stupid and said that it is reminiscent of the Emergency period when democracy was suppressed.
Dhankhar went on to say that India’s democracy has matured since then and no political strategy can justify compromising on our nationalism and democratic values. He called on all parliamentarians to respect the country’s democratic institutions and refrain from making derogatory comments about them.
Rahul Gandhi’s statements were criticized by BJP leaders, who accused him of insulting India by making such remarks in a foreign land. The Vice President’s comments further condemn the behavior of politicians who engage in such behavior and emphasize the need to uphold India’s democratic values.
