As the UP Board exams have ended, students who have completed 12th with PCM are now wondering about their next move. Many may aspire to pursue a career in engineering, while others may prefer to pursue a BSc degree. In this scenario, several questions may arise in their minds, such as the best options for further studies, colleges, fees, and even government jobs. To help address these concerns, we spoke with Maths Experts Prof. SN Mishra and Sanjeev Kumar Pandey from FIIT-JEE, a top 10 coaching institute for engineering preparation. Here’s what they had to say:
Option 1: Pursuing Engineering through JEE Mains and JEE Advanced
After completing 12th with PCM, students have two options to pursue engineering as a career. The first option is to clear JEE Mains and gain admission to NIT or IIIT, while the second option is to clear JEE Advanced and gain admission to an IIT.
To get selected for an IIT, students must score at least 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths in 12th. On the other hand, state-level private engineering colleges typically ask for a percentile above 50%.
If a student is selected for an NIT after clearing JEE Mains, it is also a good option. However, it’s advisable to take admission in the best NITs available without falling into the trap of JEE Advanced, as NITs also offer IIT-level placements.
Option 2: Pursuing BSc
For students who want to pursue a career in the field of science other than engineering, pursuing a BSc degree is a good option. Students who have completed 12th with PCM can choose from a wide range of BSc courses, such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, and more. After completing BSc, they can also pursue MSc, PhD, or research.
Language Barrier for Students Who Studied in Hindi Medium
If a student has studied in Hindi medium and has prepared the syllabus well, then it does not hinder their career opportunities. Nowadays, engineering preparation institutes offer preparation in both Hindi and English mediums. Students can prepare for JEE Mains and Advanced by studying the syllabus of both 10th and 12th well. Around 90% of the questions in these exams come from the board level syllabus, so it’s enough to clear the exams.
students who have completed 12th with PCM have a plethora of options available to pursue a career in engineering or science. They can either choose to pursue engineering through JEE Mains or Advanced or pursue a BSc degree in a particular field of science. Students who have studied in Hindi medium should not worry about the language barrier as they can prepare for exams in both Hindi and English mediums. Ultimately, the key to success is to prepare well for the exams and choose a college that offers the best placements and opportunities for growth.
