India’s Neetu Ghanghas and Sweety Pura gave a big gift to crores of Indian sports lovers by winning gold medals in their respective categories at the World Boxing Championships on Saturday.
Neetu won gold in 48kg while Sweety won gold in 81kg. With these two medals, Neetu and Sweety became the sixth and seventh Indian boxers respectively to win a gold medal in the history of the competition. Sweety Boora defeated Wang Ling of China 4-3.
In the first final played, Mongolia’s Lutshekhan Altansetseg won the gold medal by defeating him 5–0 in the 48 kg weight category. Neetu was also the gold medalist of the Commonwealth Games last year. And now he has shown his mettle on the best stage of the world as well. In the semi-final match, Neetu defeated Elua Balkibenao of Kazakhstan to make it to the final.

Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL came to India from Neetu in the World Boxing Championship. Lekha KC and Nikhat Zareen have won gold medals. While boxers have captured gold once each, Mary Kom has won gold on the global stage six times, which shows how big a boxer she has been.
Coming to the second bout, in the 81 kg weight category, Sweety showed a very aggressive style from the very first round and attacked Wang Lina of China one after the other. And it paid off as Sweety held a one point lead against the rival boxer at the end of the first round.
In the second round, Chinese Wang Lina came back strongly and fired some excellent shots on Sweety. Overall, there was a tough competition in this final match, but in the end, Sweety won the match 4-3 in her favor.
