Hawaii: About 388 people are missing due to the devastating wildfires on the island of Maui, Hawaii. At least 100 people have lost their lives since the fire broke out on 8 August.
Maui County officials have made a list of people in which 388 people are said to be missing so far. This information has been given in the report of the Washington Post.
However, within a day of Maui County officials making the list public, at least 100 people were taken off the missing list after they were told they were “safe and sound”.

“The 100 people who have been removed are reported to be safe and sound,” Steven Merrill, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Honolulu division, said during a news conference on Friday.
A post quoted agent Steven Merrill as saying, “We’re continuing to search for people.” We are not taking this campaign lightly at all. We are still confident that we are still searching for hundreds of people since the fire started and we will not stop until we find them.
Steven Merrill said the list of names released Thursday is “a small part of a larger list that is still being reviewed.”
Giving more details, FBI official Merrill said, “388 of the missing were names we had more information about.” That’s why we released him first.” I don’t want to overlook the fact that we still have hundreds of other names that we still need more information about. Merrill estimated Tuesday that the missing list has more than 1,000. There are people. There are other people.
