Russia is the biggest enemy of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky after the war. In such a situation, a Russian woman called Zelensky ‘handsome’. But she ran into trouble. He was fined.
Actually this fine was imposed by Russia. Because she was a Russian woman and there is an atmosphere of war in Russia and Ukraine. In such a situation, under an important law recently implemented in Russia, praising the enemy has been considered a crime.
The Russian human rights group Memorial said that a Russian woman named Olga Slaginum praised Zelensky. The woman described Zelensky as a “handsome man with a wonderful sense of humor”. By saying this the Russian woman has insulted the Russian Armed Forces. The monument said that ‘the woman has no right to praise Zelensky, because Zelensky is our enemy.’
Slaginum is not the first woman to get in trouble for making statements about Ukraine, but last month a man named Vassily Bolshakov was jailed for three years for joking about the war. He was found guilty of ‘defaming’ the Russian military after a fellow subway passenger told authorities about his statement.
Significantly, the war between Russia and Ukraine started on 24 February 2022. Even after more than a year has passed, the war is not over. In such a situation, strict action is taken on giving any kind of sensitive provocative statement to both the countries or about this war.
