In the year 2001, in the honor of Chaudhary Charan Singh, it was decided to celebrate Kisan Divas every year on 23 December. The country’s 5th PM Chaudhary Charan Singh was the Prime Minister from July 1979 to January 1980. He always worked for the welfare of the farmers in his life. As PM, he took many important steps in the interest of the farmers.
Being a supporter of rural and agricultural development, he made constant efforts to keep agriculture at the center of planning in India. He introduced the Agricultural Produce Market Bill in the 1949 Assembly. He became the Agriculture Minister in 1952. The Zamindari system was abolished in 1953. He played a key role in bringing the Land Holdings Act, 1960, which aimed to reduce the land holding ceiling across the state to make it uniform. Kisan Trust was established on 23 December 1978.
India is called the country of farmers and after independence they have played a very important role in the development of the country. Today is the day to express gratitude towards the country’s food provider farmer class.The purpose of celebrating this day as Farmer’s Day is to draw everyone’s attention to issues like the upliftment of farmers, their important contribution in economic development and their problems. This day serves to educate people about various issues related to farmers.
