Russia: In Russia, the Wagner Group has launched an insurgency against President Vladimir Putin. Addressing television on Saturday, Putin said that we are facing treason. Describing Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin’s armed rebellion as a betrayal, he promised to defend the Russian people and country.
Putin said that anyone who takes up arms against the army is a traitor. Putin also said that whatever Yevgeny did was a stab in the back. Putin has vowed to punish those who follow the “path of treason” and take up arms against the Russian military.
Putin addressed Russian citizens, military, and security services personnel today, according to state media TASS. In a televised address to the nation, Putin said subversive actions against people fighting at the front are like stabbing our country in the back. Putin also promised a tough response and punishment to those planning an armed rebellion.
We will protect both our people and our state from any threats, including internal betrayal, Putin said. What we have faced can definitely be called a betrayal. Unlimited ambitions and personal interests have led to treason and betrayal of the country and its people, Tass quoted Putin as saying.
