Pakistan, which is facing an economic crisis, has expressed its desire to join the BRICS group. The Government of Pakistan is trying to get the country out of the crisis.
Meanwhile, reports claimed that Pakistan may raise its demand to join the organization at the BRICS summit to be held in South Africa in August. Apart from India and China, Russia, Brazil, and South Africa are members of this organization.
Along with Pakistan, 19 countries including Saudi Arabia, and Iran have offered to become members of BRICS. BRICS countries have also talked about adding more members to strengthen the organization. However, it is almost impossible for Pakistan to find a place in it.
BRICS was formed on 16 June 2009 against the dominance of America and Western countries on the world’s big institutions. During that time it included Brazil, Russia, India, and China. South Africa became a member in December 2010.
Most of the rapidly developing countries are in this group. In such a situation, the credibility of the organization will decrease if Pakistan joins it. According to the news website First Post, India will not want to include Pakistan in the organization and it will stop working as an active member.
India has been continuously accusing Pakistan of spreading terror. At the 2016 BRICS conference, PM Modi even called Pakistan the mother of terror. On the other hand, if India separates from BRICS, then the organization will be weak.
