An overloaded boat overturned in the sea in Greece in the early hours of Wednesday. 79 people died in this accident. So far 104 people have been rescued. Relief and rescue work is going on.
The Coast Guard said it was not yet clear how many people were on board the boat when it sank. However, according to the survivors of the accident, there were 750 people aboard the boat.
According to media reports, the overturned boat in the sea was used for fishing. The boat had set out from the Tobruk region of eastern Libya. It had to reach Italy.
Kalamata Mayor Thanasis Vasilopoulos said all those rescued were between 16-41 years old. Women and children were also aboard the boat. 4 people showed symptoms of hypothermia (a condition in which the body temperature drops below normal). All have been admitted to the hospital.
