New Delhi: After April 2024, if you run more air conditioners at night to avoid the heat, then you will have to pay more electricity bills. Yes, the electricity bill will come down during day time as solar-powered electricity will be supplied during day time. This is the new electricity tariff prepared by the Ministry of Power which has been implemented from Friday.
Under this, the rate of electricity during the day will be 20 percent less than the current rate, but the rate of electricity at night (in peak hours) will be higher by 10 to 20 percent. For this, the Time of Day (TOD) tariff system has been implemented by making necessary amendments to the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020.
Regarding this new system, Electricity Minister RK Singh said that this will help customers to reduce their electricity bills. There are two main reasons behind this move of the government.
-Firstly, the demand for electricity generated from solar energy and other renewable energy sources should increase in the country. Since power is generated from solar energy during the day, the disco will buy more power from it during the day.
-The second reason is that in view of the possibility of getting more electricity bills during peak hours, common customers will consume less electricity during this period.
