Former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf has passed away. He was admitted to a hospital in Dubai, where he breathed his last. Pakistani news channel Geo News has confirmed this. Significantly, 79-year-old Pervez Musharraf was ill for a long time. His family had informed on Twitter that he was battling a disease called amyloidosis. Because of this, almost all his organs had stopped working.
Pervez Musharraf was suffering from a disease called amyloidosis, in which abnormal protein called amyloid starts to build up in the body. Apart from the heart, this protein attacks kidney, liver, brain, etc., due to which the tissues of these organs are not able to function. Pervez Musharraf’s family had said that there is no scope for his recovery.
Let us inform that General Pervez Musharraf came to power in the year 1999 by a military coup. He was sworn in as the President of Pakistan in the year 2001. Significantly, in the year 2019, Pervez Musharraf was convicted of treason by a special court in Islamabad. After this he was sentenced to death. He challenged the death sentence in the Lahore High Court.
Life of Pervez Musharraf: –
General Pervez Musharraf was born in New Delhi. His family had moved from New Delhi to Karachi in the year 1947 after the partition. In Pakistan, he studied at the Lahore Foreman Christian College. He studied at the Royal College of Defense Studies, United Kingdom. He joined Pakistan Military Academy Quetta in the year 1961. In the year 1964, he joined the Artillery Regiment of the Pakistan Army. He was a second lieutenant during the Indo-Pak war of 1965.
Pervez Musharraf was the Chief of the Pakistani Army during the 1999 Kargil War between India and Pakistan. After the Kargil war, he had carried out a military coup without shedding blood. At that time the then President Nawaz Sharif was in Sri Lanka. He had declared himself the President. In the year 2001, Pervez Musharraf took the oath of office. Pervez Musharraf resigned in the year 2008. After this, Asif Ali Zardari, husband of former Pakistan PM Benazir Bhutto, became the President. After his expulsion, there were massive protests in Pakistan. After this, in the year 2008, he left Pakistan and went to London.
Pervez Musharraf returned to Pakistan again for the 2013 general elections but was disqualified to contest. He was declared a proclaimed offender in the year 2017. He was accused of his alleged involvement in the assassination of former President Benazir Bhutto. He was also sentenced to death in December 2019 for imposing emergency and suspending the constitution.
A serious case of sedition was registered against him. On this, Musharraf himself had said that ‘in my view this matter is completely baseless. Forget about treason, I have served this country a lot, fought wars and served the country for ten years.
