He said, “General Thimayya served in Cyprus till his death in 1965. Journal Chand’s tireless efforts to protect civilians, rescue foreign diplomats and protect the airport in Nicosia during the Turkish invasion will never be forgotten.
Patrika Thimayya was a distinguished soldier of the Indian Army. He was the Chief of Army Staff from 1957 to 1961. Just after his term ended, there was a war between India and China in 1962.
