This whole matter is related to the new liquor policy 2021-22, which was implemented by the Kejriwal government on 17 November 2021. Under this policy, the liquor business in Delhi was handed over to private hands. In this, the sale of liquor was allowed in clubs, bars and restaurants till about three in the morning.
The Kejriwal government had implemented a new excise policy citing the end of the mafia raj. The government claimed revenue gains from this policy. However, the result turned out to be just the opposite. It was accepted in the cabinet meeting on 31 July 2022.
Questions raised after the implementation of the new excise policy
There were allegations that the commission of the wholesale licensees was increased to 12%. Apart from this, the monopoly of big companies increased and bigger shops opened than before and after that the discussion started increasing. It is also alleged that the liquor traders started selling it in the market by giving huge discounts.
