America and North Korea: On July 18, an American soldier stationed in South Korea crossed the border and went to North Korea. Here he was taken into custody by dictator Kim Jong Un’s officials. According to a BBC report, this soldier named Travis King spent two months in jail on charges of assault in South Korea. He was soon to be deported back to America.
Colonel Isaac Taylor, a spokesman for the US military in South Korea, has said that Travis entered North Korea voluntarily and without permission. According to the United Nations Command, when Travis entered North Korea, he was in the village of Panmunjom on a joint security area tour with the South Korean team. This is the same village where there was a ceasefire after the Korean War. At the same time, now talks are being held with the North Korean army to resolve the matter.
The BBC reports that Travis King attacked a young man at a nightclub in September. They vandalized the police vehicle and used abusive language against them. In this case, he was fined $3,950 i.e. Rs 3 lakh. He was released on 10 July after spending two months in jail. Travis was also placed under military surveillance.
According to reports, when he was taken to the airport to be sent back to the US, he said that his passport was lost. After this, he joined the team which was going to visit the border of South Korea and North Korea.
An eyewitness told that he laughed out loud after crossing the border. At the same time, another eyewitness said that when he saw Travis crossing the border, he felt that he was doing such an absurd act to make a Tiktok video.
Retired General Robert Abrams, who was a commander in the US Army, said that this is a big deal related to the army. He said- I am worried about Travis, but I am glad that the North Korean army did not shoot him on sight. Travis would know how unfairly and illegally North Korea treats people who enter their country.
However, it is not yet known why 23-year-old American soldier Travis King crossed the border. Travis King’s mother Claudine Gates told ABC News that she could not imagine that her son could do something like this. He told that he had talked to Travis a few days ago. Then he said that he would soon return to his army base in Texas.
