US and Taliban officials met in Qatar on Monday for the first time since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan two years ago. During this, the US insisted on changing the policies in Afghanistan, through which the Taliban is increasing restrictions on women along with abolishing human rights.
In fact, after the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021, the US seized Afghan assets. During this, US President Joe Biden said that he would use it to help the families of the 9/11 victims.
Some families of 9/11 victims sued the Taliban, which they won. This family wanted to repay the loan taken at the time of the case with this money. However, in February, a federal court in New York ruled that 9/11 victims could not access the money.
Judge George Daniels said in his 30-page opinion – the Taliban should take responsibility for the most dangerous attack in the history of America and seek compensation, but America cannot seize the money of the Afghan Central Bank. If he did so, it would simply mean that the US is recognizing the Taliban government.
Till now no country including America has recognized the Taliban as the government of Afghanistan. During talks between the delegations of the two countries in Qatar on Sunday, the US agreed that terrorist attacks on the people of Afghanistan have reduced since the Taliban came to power.
The Taliban promised in 2021 that they would not allow their land to be used for terrorist attacks on the US, its allies, and the people of Afghanistan.
