Libya: The terrible flood in Libya has become a disaster for the people. According to a CNN report, more than 6000 people have lost their lives so far due to the flood and more than 10 thousand people are feared missing.
Saaduddin Abdul Wakil, undersecretary of the health ministry of the unity government in Tripoli, said the new death toll was released on Wednesday morning local time.
Libyan officials fear that up to 10,000 missing people may have been swept out to sea or buried under debris scattered across the city. Flooding in the city of Derna has displaced more than 30,000 people, according to the International Organization for Migration in Libya. Severe damage to the infrastructure of the city of Derna has created difficulties for humanitarian organizations, CNN reports.
Only two of the seven entry points to Derna are open. According to CNN, the dead must be buried within three days to respect Islamic traditions. Libyan authorities are digging amid the debris transformed into mountains to pull out survivors and bodies.
