Libya: The Libyan government has started an investigation into the collapse of two dams. More than 11 thousand people have died due to floods in coastal areas due to dam breaches. The total number of dead may cross the figure of 21 thousand.
Last week, due to the storm in the Mediterranean Sea, there was heavy rain in the entire coastal area, during which dams were broken due to excess water. Due to the breach of the dam, waves of water several meters high started swallowing the population of Derna city and within a few hours, thousands of people were swept away into the sea.
The deaths of 11,300 people have been confirmed and more than 10 thousand people are missing. The search for the missing people is going on but now the chances of their being alive are very less.
A large number of houses and other buildings have also been destroyed by the floods. The administration is busy controlling the situation. Claire Nicklett, who leads the Doctors Without Borders organization engaged in relief work, said that a large number of bodies were found on Friday. Apart from the dead bodies buried in mud and debris, a large number of dead bodies are also coming out of the sea.
