World NGO Day is celebrated every year on 27 February all over the world. More than 89 countries and 6 continents of the world celebrate this day at their respective levels. NGO means non-governmental organization. NGO is such an organization, which does not work for the benefit of government and businessmen, but its purpose is public service.
World NGO Day started
The celebration of NGO Day was announced in the year 2010 by the representative of the Baltic Sea NGO Forum in the Baltic East states. Later, the United Nations General Assembly declared the first week of February to be observed as World NGO Week. However, for the first time, World NGO Day was celebrated on 27 February 2014.
Theme of World NGO Day 2023
Every year a theme is decided to celebrate NGO Day. This year the theme of NGO Day 2023 is “Role and Impact of NGOs in Advancing Human Rights and Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”.
Importance of NGO Day
By celebrating this day, we celebrate the work done by various NGOs and their contribution. as well as motivating people to become more actively involved within NGOs and encouraging greater symbiosis between the private and public sectors. NGOs are actively involved in environmental, social and human rights work. NGO acts as a link between the government and the general public.
