First, on Monday morning, an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 occurred in Kahramanmaras. It also engulfed several neighboring provinces such as Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Malatya, Osmania, Hatay and Kilis.
After this, at 1:24 pm, once again there was a 7.6 magnitude earthquake in the center of Kahramanmaras. 46 earthquake tremors were felt in Turkey on Monday. The epicenter of the earthquake was the Turkish city of Gaziantep. It is 90 km from the Syrian border. That’s why there was more devastation in its surrounding areas. Its effect is also visible. There are reports of collapse of buildings in many cities including Damascus, Aleppo, Hama, Latakia.
After the earthquake, an “air support corridor” was created by the Turkish Armed Forces for relief and rescue operations in earthquake-affected areas. Turkish (Turkey) National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said, “We have sent our planes for medical teams, search and rescue teams to the earthquake-affected areas. Our effort is to rescue the injured people as soon as possible.”
At the same time, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the earthquake in Turkey. He said that the sentiments of 140 crore Indians are with Turkey. Government of India is sending NDRF search and rescue teams and medical teams to Turkey with relief material and now India has fulfilled its commitment and in return Turkish people are very happy with India’s help.
