The earthquake occurred at 04:17 a.m. local time (0117 GMT) at a depth of approximately 17.9 kilometers (11 miles). Giving information about this, the US Geological Service said that on Monday, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred near Gaziantep in southern Turkey. Its center has been Nurda, 26 km east of Turkey. This area is near Gaziantep. The population of this area is around two million, out of which 5 lakh are Syrian refugees. It is feared that the earthquake may cause loss of life and property on a large scale.
More than 2,300 people were injured in one of Turkey’s biggest earthquakes, Turkey’s Vice President Fuat Oktay said, as search and rescue operations continued in several major cities.
Turkey is one of the most active earthquake zones in the world. Deuz was one of the areas affected by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in 1999. Experts have long warned that a major earthquake could devastate Istanbul, which has allowed extensive construction without safety precautions. In January 2020, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Elazig, killing over 40 people. And in October of that year, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the Aegean Sea, killing 114 and injuring more than 1,000.
President Erdogan said – We will deal with this disaster together Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Twitter that search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the earthquake-affected areas. We hope that together we will overcome this disaster as soon as possible and with the least loss.
PM Modi expressed grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the earthquake incident. He said that I am saddened by the loss of life and property due to the earthquake in Turkey. India will send help
Meanwhile, following the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India has decided to send help to earthquake-affected Turkey. India will send National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) search and rescue teams, medical teams and relief material to Turkey.
