Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win over 300 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming general elections and retain power under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at a rally, Shah also criticized the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi for their lack of success in recent assembly elections in the Northeast.
Northeastern States a BJP stronghold
Shah highlighted the BJP’s success in the recent assembly elections in Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland, stating that the party formed the government in Tripura and returned to power in the other two states with allies. He also noted that the Northeast was once considered a stronghold of the Congress, but the party failed to perform well despite Rahul Gandhi’s visit.
Rahul Gandhi’s Controversial Remarks
Taking a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Shah criticized him for his controversial remarks during his visit to Britain, where he allegedly insulted India from foreign soil. Shah warned that if Rahul continued to do this, the Congress would be wiped out not only from the Northeast but from the entire country.
Withdrawal of AFSPA from Assam
Shah also highlighted the BJP-led government’s success in withdrawing the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) from 70% of Assam’s areas. He noted that the Bodoland and Karbi Anglong areas are now peaceful, and the state’s border disputes with neighboring states are being resolved.
Amit Shah’s confident prediction of the BJP winning over 300 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 general elections, along with his criticism of the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi, has sparked a debate about the political landscape in India. The BJP’s success in the recent assembly elections in the Northeast and the withdrawal of AFSPA from Assam are seen as significant achievements by the party.
